One year later. . .
Drew walked outside onto the back porch, "Honey, I'm home" he said, walking up behind Ali and kissing her cheek. Ali laughed, turning to face him, "Corny, but cute" she teased. Drew pretended to pout, "You don't like it?" he asked. "Did I say that?" she asked. Drew laughed and pulled her into his arms, "We don't have plans tonight do we?" he asked, kissing the top of her head. "Not unless you made some" she replied, kissing him quickly on the lips. "Good. Cause I made some" "Where are we going?" Drew's smile widened, "Just you and me, and the food is in the car" "Sounds like trouble" Ali teased. "Ready?" he asked impatiently, tugging on his baseball cap. "Where are we going?" she asked, as he took her hand and led her out to his car. "You'll find out" "But Drew, just tell me, otherwise, I'll annoy you until you talk" she said, a gleam in her eyes. Drew laughed, "You'll never annoy me. And if I tell you, it won't be a surprise" "Drew" she protested. "At least I didn't blindfold you, you've never been there before though, so the signs are going to help" he said triumphantly. "Like I really would've let you blindfold me Drew" Ali laughed. "That's a good point" Drew agreed, trying to calm the butterflies in his stomach. Talk about deja vu, he thought to himself with a wry grin. Was he ever going to stop being nervous? he laughed to himself.
The two rode in silence, Ali wondering what he was planning and Drew wondering how his plan would turn out. Luckily for both of them, they soon reached their destination. "We're here" Ali looked around, "Where is here?" she asked, kicking open the car door and moving to help Drew. "No, no, I'll get it, I'm buff" he joked, flexing his arm for her. Ali giggled, "I know it babe" she smiled, kissing him on the cheek and slipping her hand into his free one.
Drew blushed faintly as they walked down the wooden stairs and onto a secluded beach. "Like it?" he asked hopefully. Ali pulled her hair back with one hand, looking around, "Drew..." she breathed, "Its beautiful" Drew smiled, as he spread out a blanket on the sand and set out the food. "Dinner time," he said, moving to sit next to her. When they were finished, and everything was put back into the basket, Ali stretched out on the blanket, and looked over at Drew. "We haven't been at the beach in a while..not since our anniversary" she observed, linking her fingers across her stomach. Drew nodded, lying down next to her and propping himself up on his elbow, "I know, it seems like a long time ago" "Four months isn't that long" "No, not when you've been in heaven" Drew said, lightly brushing her lips with his own.
The two looked at one another for what seemed years to Drew as he slipped his hand into his pocket and pulled out a ring, trying not to attract any attention. Ali didn't notice, as she looked up at the darkening sky. "Ali?" Drew asked, taking her hand and kissing it quickly. "Mmm?" she asked, looking up at Drew. "Marry me?" he asked, slipping the ring onto her finger. Ali gasped, tears filling her eyes as she sat up, unable to speak. Drew panicked, "Ali, don't cry, please don't cry. I can't stand seeing you cry" he said earnestly. Taking a deep breath, he said the words that caused him a great deal of pain, "If you don't want to, I understand" he forced himself to say. Ali shook her head, "No, no Drew! Its not that at all! I want to marry you!" she said, throwing her arms around him and hiding her face against his neck.
Drew's entire body relaxed as soon as he heard her words. Wordlessly, he pulled her tightly against him, tangling his fingers in her long hair. Ali looked up at him, "I've never been this happy" she said, brushing the tears off her cheeks, "I love you so much Drew" "You nearly gave me a heart attack" he replied, "I love you Ali" he said, pulling her close to him again, "I'm in paradise" he whispered, as their lips met passionately.
