Drew looked around the freshly painted room. He was
very proud of how it turned out. Even though he was covered in a fine layer of green
paint, he couldn't wait to show off his work to Ali. Ali had offered to paint, but Drew
had banished her from the room. He didn't want her overexerting herself this close to the
due date. Only two more weeks, he thought, running his hand through his hair and
unknowingly leaving a green streak in it.
Ali was curled up on the couch looking through a baby name book. She
had offered to help Drew paint, but no, he had to go and be all stubborn about it. Just
because she looked like she was going to pop... . She walked into what was now the baby's
room, "Wow Drew..it looks great!" she said, "Even though you did forget to
cover the carpet and everything..."
Drew laughed, "Good thing I hadn't banished you from the room
yet"
Ali looked at him for a few moments, then started laughing.
"Drew...you've.."
Drew looked at her puzzled, "What?What's so funny? Did I mess up
or something?"
Ali shook her head, "No, no the room looks great hun..its
just..you've got..." she started laughing again.
"What? I've got what?"
"Paint..all over your hair" Ali managed to say at last.
Drew reached up and touched the already drying paint, "Oh..."
he said, grinning, "I think its all over me"
"Probably." Ali agreed, "Thanks for doing this Drew...it
looks great"
Drew put his arms around her, "You're welcome. Couldn't have you
doing all the work." For a few moments, they both just stood there, lost in their own
thoughts.
"Drew?"
"Mmhmm?"
"We need to pick names soon"
"That's true..you're all baby" he said, rubbing his hand over
her stomach.
Ali leaned back against him, "I know...the sooner the better"
she said, putting her hands over Drew's.
