Drew walked to the edge of the pool and stuck his
hand into the water, hoping he'd be able to catch her attention without having to jump in
after her. Which was probably what he was going to end up doing anyways. Just when he had
decided there was no way she was going to stop, she suddenly stood up. "What? Did you
want me to tell you how babies are made?" she said, more than a little sarcasm
evident in her voice.
Drew decided the best way to respond to that comment was just to ignore
it, "Ali, just let me talk to you" he asked.
"You are, aren't you?"
"Want me to help you out?" he offered.
Ali looked at him for a minute before pulling her swim cap off and
ducking underwater to get her hair out of her face. Then she easily climbed out of the
pool and wrapped her towel around her waist before looking at Drew expectantly.
"Ali...I didn't mean what I said earlier.." he said, taking a
few steps closer to her and reaching for her hand. "I was shocked, even though that's
not much of an excuse...I can only guess how surprised you were. But sweetie, I am sorry,
and I do want to have this baby. I just can't believe its happening so soon...Not that
that's a bad thing" he added quickly. Even though Ali was doing her best to hide her
feelings behind a mask of anger, Drew knew they were there. He gently touched her cheek,
"Ali, I can't wait, I'm gonna be a daddy"
Ali looked at him, "Yeah, you are..." she agreed.
"Am I forgiven?"
"Should I really let you off that easily?" she asked, smiling
slightly.
Drew slipped an arm around her waist, "Please?" he asked,
pouting slightly.
"Drew..."
"I know, and I am sorry baby"
"I know you're sorry. Its just that was the last thing I needed to
hear. And do you even really mean what you said? Or are you just trying to make me feel
better about all of this? Besides, its not like you're gonna.."
"What? I'm not going to love you anymore or something?" Drew
asked in an amazed voice, but realizing she was serious, he quickly lowered his voice,
"Trust me on this Ali, there is not a chance of that happening.... I just can't
believe how lucky I am, I can't wait to have a baby with you. And I meant everything I've
said. I mean now, not earlier" he corrected himself quickly.
"I believe you..." she said, smiling at him.
Drew slid one of his hands to her stomach, "You're gonna look so
beautiful when you start to show" he said, lightly rubbing it.
"Sorry, you've got to wait another month for that"
"Awww..."
"Actually, I have a doctor's appointment in two weeks...do you, I
mean, would you want to go?"
"I'd love to! Are you sure you want me there?" he asked.
Ali gave him a look, "I'd love it, but only if you want to"
"This is so cool!" he gushed, "Are they going to do the
sonogram thing?"
"I think so"
"Thanks Ali" he said, suddenly lifting her into his arms
easily.
"Drew..put me down..I can walk. . .Drew! You're gonna drop
me!"
"But Ali...I love you!" he said, as if that were an
explanation.
"I love you too...just put me down!"
