              Eighteen months later. . .

Ali dropped her keys onto the kitchen counter. Somehow, even that simple act seemed incredibly different. Now all she had to do was tell Drew.
"Hey hun" Drew said, looking up from the mail he was sorting through.
"Hi" Ali said, looking at him intently.
"How was the doctor's visit?" he asked, stopping to kiss her softly on the lips.
"Um...it was good" she said, wondering what else she could say.
"Are you ok?" he asked, picking up on the odd tone in her voice.
                  "Yes" she answered him slowly.
"Ali, what's wrong?" he asked softly, wondering what had happened.
                  "Well...I'm ok and all"
                  "That's good" Drew encouraged.
                  "Yeah"
                  "And?"
                  "Well..um...things are good"
                  Drew nodded, completely confused.
"And you're not going to take this well..."
Drew's face paled, "Take what well? I thought you said you were ok?"
"I am! I just don't think this is going to go over well"
Drew frowned, "What won't I take well? Its not like you're pregnant or anything-" he suddenly stopped, seeing the look of shock pass over her face. "Oh my God...you are....shit, that's not how I meant it-"
"Shut up Drew" Ali said, somehow, she had known he'd say something like that. Deep down, she knew he didn't mean it, he was as shocked as she was. They'd talked about having kids, but they had planned to wait for a little while. Although eighteen months was a little while....
                  "I didn't, I mean, Ali, its just-"
Ali silenced him with a glare as she left the room. As she walked upstairs to their room, she looked outside, her gaze falling onto the sparkling water of the swimming pool. She quickly made up her mind. The one thing that could calm her down..she needed something to distract her and what better thing than swimming? She'd been on swim teams since middle school, and the reptition of laps had always been a great release for her. At the least, she'd be too tired to care.
